Digital music lovers, rejoice! Amazon has added its Cloud Player as a FREE channel for Roku streaming devices! This means that if you have a Roku streaming box, you can now stream your digital audio Cloud Library direct to your television set through your Roku.
Now your television set can double as a digital music player, too! No more need to keep separate stereo component boxes in the same room where your TV and Roku box are, or to hook up your Kindle Fire or MP3 player to external speakers to get enough sound to fill the room when you’re entertaining, doing housework or relaxing: any recent-model TV will also have stereo speakers, and very often, Dolby surround-sound audio as well.
The Cloud Player Roku channel has all the same sort and search options as when you run Cloud Player on your computer or portable device, plus additional, alphabetic groupings that make it easier to find a specific album, artist or genre when your library is very large.
Here’s the scoop, from Amazon:
Keep all your music safe in the cloud, and listen to it on your home entertainment system with Amazon Cloud Player for Roku. Search, browse, and play all your songs, albums and playlists from your couch. Compatible with Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, Roku 2 XS, Roku LT, and Roku Streaming Stick.
If you don’t have a Roku player yet, you can get one for as little as $49.99 (as of this writing). For anyone who regularly rents or purchases Amazon Instant Videos, views Prime videos, or uses Cloud Player to listen to audio, but whose TV doesn’t already have internet streaming access built in, the Roku is a very wise investment that will generally cost you less than the price of a set of quality external speakers for your Fire or other portable devices. The Roku is a one-time purchase, there’s no monthly fee for using it, as you might have with something like a Tivo box. Also, the Roku is very small and runs completely silently, so there’s no humming or buzzing to interfere with your audio enjoyment.
Once you do have a Roku player, you can install the FREE Amazon Instant Video channel to get full access to the Amazon Instant Video Store, your own library of any purchased Amazon Instant Videos, and now, all the audio you’ve got stored in Amazon’s Cloud Player too, right on your TV!
Here’s how to install either channel:
1. Login to your Amazon account.
2. While logged in, go to this page to register your Roku for Cloud Player audio streaming, or this page to register your Roku for Amazon Instant Video access.
3. When prompted on the Amazon site, go to your Roku and install the desired channel (Amazon Instant Video or Cloud Player) from the Roku’s ‘Channel Store’. When you do, the Roku will display an alphanumeric registration code.
4. Enter the provided code on the registration page on the Amazon site. You’re done, and ready to watch Amazon Instant Videos or stream your audio on your TV!
Don’t forget to regularly check the “Free Music” listings in Amazon’s MP3 Store; before you know it, you can have a large and entirely free library of music to fill your home as well as your Fire!
