Today’s Amazon App Store Free App of the Day is Cross Me Color, a full-color Nonogram logic puzzle game. From Amazon:
CrossMe Color is a fun and challenging puzzle for all skill levels and all ages from beginners to enthusiasts. It is a Japanesse Crossword (Nonogram) where you discover a hidden image marking cells or leaving them blank according to the numbers on the side of the grid.
We provide few simple crosswords for you to learn how to play the game, as well as the step-by-step tutorial. Those familiar with Japanese crosswords may skip this and go to more challenging larger pictures. We will keep on adding crosswords in the future, please watch for updates.
The way these puzzles work is fairly simple, and similar in concept to Sudoku puzzles. The puzzle begins as a blank grid. Across the top border each column displays a number indicating how many squares in that column should be filled in the complete the picture. Across the side border each row displays a number to indicate how many squares in that row should be filled in. By combining these pieces of information, it’s possible to deduce exactly which squares to fill in, and which to leave blank.
If you ever played one of those early Windows minefield games, you’re familiar with this grid-and-number-clues concept.
Note that while this app only has an average review rating of 3.5/5 stars, virtually every negative review criticizes the game for excessive permissions. However, the network permissions are only used if you wish to sync your puzzles across multiple devices that have this app installed, or if you wish to use the ‘social’ features of the game (e.g., share your top scores on Facebook or Twitter). It would not be possible to do these things without the network permissions.
If you are very concerned about network permission access, simply turn off your wireless connection while using apps on your Fire to eliminate all such network access.
