Bargain Alert: Popular Kindle Books For $3 Each

The following Kindle books all have an average review rating of 4/5 stars or better, and they’re all priced at just $3 each for a limited time.

Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson (4/5 stars)

Redefining the classic essay, this modern edition of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s most famous work, Self-Reliance, includes self-reflections from both historical and contemporary luminaries. With quotes from the likes of Henry Ford and Helen Keller to modern-day thought leaders like Jesse Dylan, Steve Pressfield, and Milton Glaser, we’re reminded of the relevance of Emerson’s powerful words today. Emerson’s words are timeless.

Persuasive and convincing, he challenges readers to define their own sense of accomplishment and asks them to measure themselves against their own standards, not those of society. This famous orator has utter faith in individualism and doesn’t invoke beyond what is humanly possible, he just believes deeply that each of us is capable of greatness. He asks us to define that greatness for ourselves and to be true to ourselves. At times harsh, at times comforting, Emerson’s words guide the reader to challenge their own beliefs and sense of self. This modern edition of Self-Reliance is ideal for graduates or those who are in the midst of a career or lifestyle change. Emerson’s sage guidance wrapped in modern-day reflections is a great reminder about the potential within us all and that life is what you make of it.

In The Meantime by Robert Lippincott (4/5 stars)

From the intimacy of small town America to big city life, from World War II to 9/11, In the Meantime vividly encapsulates an unforgettable era.On a hot summer’s day in 1931, three five-year-olds meet on a dusty street in a small Midwestern town, beginning a friendship that will last all their lives. Kathryn, the oldest in an ever-expanding family, is bright and earnest, and thinks she wants to become a nurse. Starling is an only child with an absent father. He doesn’t yet know that he is of mixed race-he doesn’t even know what that means-all he knows is that when he grows up he will be a star. Luke doesn’t know what he wants, except for his older brother not to be dead.

Together they experience the joys and pains of childhood, although the anxieties of puberty and awakening sexuality nearly destroy their three-way friendship forever. Reaching adulthood after World War II, they follow their dreams to New York City, where they discover that not even Manhattan is free of racism and prejudice.Through the years of their ever-entwined adult lives some dreams are realized while others grow dim, but one constant remains: their bond of friendship. At the book’s end, some seventy years after it began, only one of them remains to tell the story of their lives, and of what happened…in the meantime.

  1. I am sure all of these books are great, but I am still not seeing the authors I read. I know John Sanford has a new book out, one of the Preys. I was hoping to read them on my Kindle Fire, but I guess I will have to purchase them at Half Price Books, where I usually get my books unless I can’t find them there.

    • Our site visitors seem to gravitate toward sale books, so that’s mostly what we feature here. However, though the book you refer to isn’t due to be released until 5/15 in print, you can already buy the Kindle edition here: http://amzn.to/Yv1lim
