Rachel’s Review:
Nikki Maxwell is the new girl in eight grade at a new school, Westchester Country Day. Dork Diaries is written and illustrated by Nikki as she describes all of the new experiences at the new school, her love for drawing, and her family issues (not getting an iPhone). The switch to her new school does not go as well at she thought. She meets many CCP (cute, cool and popular) girls that do not exactly want to be her new friends. Mackenzie Hollister is the leader of the CCP girls and competes against Nikki in a school art competition.
Nikki makes friends through her artist talent of designing tattoos. She also becomes best friends with a boy name Brandon. Although the CCP girls never become her best friends, Nikki has integrity by standing firm in what she believes in. Nikki’s diary is humorous and shows her courage as she shares her thoughts and experiences with the reader.
I would recommend this book, it was fast and easy to read, and I really enjoyed the humorous writing and sketches. Dork Diaries is similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid but in a girl version.
