Jon Scieszka is probably best known for his hardcover picture books like The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and his terrific Time Warp Trio series of chapter books, and he’s also the founder of Guys Read, an initiative to help get boys over the reading “hump” they often experience when transitioning from illustrated chapter books to regular novels.
Now he’s got a great new series for the very youngest readers, ages 4 and up: Jon Scieszka’s Trucktown. For this series Scieszka has brought in David Shannon, a celebrated children’s book author in his own right (No, David! series of picture books, Alice the Fairy, A Bad Case of Stripes, How I Became A Pirate, more), to illustrate the series.
Smash! Crash! – Jon Scieszka’s Trucktown (3.5/5 stars, currently priced at $3.99)
Jack Truck and his best friend Dump Truck Dan are spending the day doing their favorite thing… Smashing and Crashing throughout the whole town! Along the way they meet up with their friends and give us a rollicking tour! But when a mysterious shadow falls and a strange voice calls, is the duo in trouble? Or has a new friend come to town to join in all the smashing fun.
Dizzy Izzy – Jon Scieszka’s Trucktown (4/5 stars, currently priced at $3.99)
Izzy the ice-cream truck is doing everything he can think of to make himself dizzy, but nothing seems to be working as well as he’d like.
Among other attempts, Izzy goes through the car wash, gets covered in suds, and spins himself in circles.
In all his efforts, he gets in a tizzy, feels whizzy and fizzy…but is Izzy ever dizzy?
Young readers will love this tongue-twisting, rhyming text—and many of the words in the book can be found on road signs, making it easy and fun for kids to apply their knowledge!
Kat’s Maps – Jon Scieszka’s Trucktown (5/5 stars, currently priced at $3.99)
Kat loves maps!
She loves to make maps for everything.
Her room, her block, her town, even her heart.
When she gives Jack a map it leads to a surprise! After taking twists and turns through Trucktown and going over bridges and under tunnels, Jack finds out what it is. An art show of all of Kat’s maps!
There are many more titles in this series currently available in hard copy, and we hope to see them released in Kindle format soon.
