Merritt’s Review

If someone came up to you and asked, “How do you kill 11 million people;” What would you do? What would you say? How would you react?

That’s what I thought. Most of us have never considered the possibility of killing one person, much less millions of them! Think about it, on a serious note, how do you kill 11 million people?

The answer is easy. Too easy. You lie to them.

How many people overlook “a little white lie”? But that’s just it, you don’t think a little lie will hurt anyone, and maybe you lied to protect someone, but are really protecting them or yourself?

What ever happened to “For you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free?” Does anyone even follow virtues any more? Were we not raised to always tell the truth, because in the end those lies would catch up to us?

That’s how Hitler pulled off the biggest deceit in history, without much objection or restraint. He lied to the German people, and look what happened!

“How fortunate for leaders,” Hitler said to his inner circle, ”that men do not think. Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

(Something many do not know, is that the Jews were not the only ones forced to wear stars.)

“The most dangerous thing any nation faces is a citizenry capable of trusting a liar to lead them.” a quote from “How To Kill 11 Million People” on page 42. This quote is very true. It is easier to undo the policies of crooked leadership than to restore than to restore common sense and wisdom to deceived population willing to elect such a leader in the first place. Any country can survive having chosen a fool as their leader. But history has shown time and again that a nation of fools is surely doomed.

This book is to help bring awareness so that the U.S.A. doesn’t become a “nation or fools” and result in the next Holocaust!

(The author used the the annihilation of the Jews to make people aware of the cold hard facts, but underneath all of those facts is a true purpose. Andrews’ purpose of How To Kill 11 Million People, is to create a call to action and to help people see the need for action.)

Educational Value:

Before I read this book, I was aware of the gist of the Holocaust and what happened, but I was really unaware of the hard cold truth and facts. This novel opened my eyes to mind blowing statistics and scenarios that aren’t as unlikely to happen as we would like to think. I’m also much more aware of what’s going on in politics and surprisingly, I don’t like what I see. It’s nerve racking to realize the different directions in which  our country can go, especially when we don’t know if we can trust the people leading us to begin with! This novel was a pure educational read. It’s definitely made me become more aware of what’s going on around me and suspicious of what’s not.

Entertainment Value:

I read this book  strictly for an  educational purpose; to learn more about the history of the Holocaust, to see just how different we are, to try to understand the logic behind it, and to satisfy my curiosity. I knew starting out that this would not be the most entertaining novel, but I also was very hooked on it. It kept my attention with details and shocking facts and turned out to be much more entertaining that I had ever expected!
