Thomas’ Review:

The story starts when William Parry’s father disappears on an adventure when he was only 2 years old. Ten years have passed and Will’s own adventure is just about to start. After two men break into his mother’s house and he accidentally kills one of them, he decides he must go find and bring his father back. As he is thinking where to start he discovers a window into another strange world in which he finds a young girl called Lyra (who is the main character in the first book, the Golden Compass) and figures out his true destiny which is to be the wielder of the subtle knife. He and Lyra then team up to find his father and when they do three things happen. One, his father tells him a great war is coming and his decisions will have a big impact on the outcome. Two, his father dies.  And three, Lyra gets captured by her evil mother. It was a great read to me!

Entertainment Value:

This book was wonderful to read and leaves off in a place leaving you sad for it to have ended!

Educational Value:

Like the first book, it has a lot of hidden meanings and a great literature base!
