Deja’s Review:

After being homeschooled for most of his childhood, August (Auggie) Pullman is about attend 5th grade at Beecher prep middle school. The only thing he is worried about is not fitting in with the crowd.

August has had 27 surgeries for 10 years to correct a facial “deformity” that he was born with. He learns to live with the strange looks and mean names. People say that he looks like he has been caught in a fire. But most people doesn’t even know the half of what August has to go through in life.

August has learned the ups and downs with having friends. His friends Summer and Jack help him through his first year in school. When the 5th grade nature retreat comes up August gets really scared because he has never had a sleep over. When he gets in a little trouble with some 7th graders his friends Amos, Henry, Miles and Jack come to the rescue. After the 5th grade he is no longer known as the weird looking kid.
