If you’re enjoying Game of Thrones and would like to delve even deeper into the lives of these characters and the world they inhabit, pick up the books on which that series is based: the Song Of Ice and Fire series, by George R.R. Martin.
The five books in this series are available in Kindle format as separate, individual volumes, as well as in a 5-book boxed set and boxed set that includes the first 4 books. While going with the box sets may save you some money, reviewers have reported that the box sets combine all of their books into a single volume, which makes navigating through the books challenging.
For example, it’s not a good idea to skip around through the books because Kindle books always “remember” where you last left off. So if you’re reading book 2 and then decide to skip ahead to book 4 for a little bit, it will be very difficult to return to the spot where you left off in book 2. This is also an issue when you leave the text of a given book to look at maps or charts in the front or back matter of the book. Because of these issues, it may be preferable to buy the separate books individually.
A series of graphic novels based on the HBO series is also being produced. Game of Thrones Volume One (4/5 stars, currently priced at $12.99) is now available, and Volume Two is set for a June release.
There’s also a series of 12 Game of Thrones comic books available in Kindle format, and each is priced at $3.99.
