Big Miracle (PG, 4/5 stars) – Set in Cold War-era 1988, Big Miracle tells the true story of a small-town news reporter (John Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle.

Batman Begins (PG-13, 4.5/5 stars) – Christian Bale stars in Christopher Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader’s origin story.

The Dark Knight (PG-13, 4/5 stars) – In which Batman must take on the Joker: a new foe whose only goal is creating mayhem in order to prove that when faced with life and death choices, no one, not even the Bat, is truly noble. Will Batman and the citizens of Gotham prove him wrong?

Act of Valor (R, 4.5/5 stars) – When a mission to rescue a kidnapped CIA operative unexpectedly uncovers a chilling plot with potentially unimaginable consequences, a team of the most elite, highly-trained warriors in the modern world is dispatched on a top-secret operation. Featuring real-world Navy SEALs re-enacting real-life battlefield experiences.

Next are some recent video releases that may not have received the best reviews, but have nevertheless been very popular at the box office, in disc sales and streaming rentals:


21 Jump Street– (PG-13, 3.5/5 stars) A movie remake of the popular TV series. Rookie cops Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum go undercover as students to bust a high school drug ring – with hysterically disastrous results!


Lockout (R, 3.5/5 stars) – A renegade CIA agent (Guy Pearce), falsely accused of murder, must overcome a gang of ruthless prisoners held 50 miles above Earth and rescue the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace) in order to regain his freedom.

 


Safe House (R, 3.5/5 stars) – Oscar-winner Denzel Washington stars in this high tension, action-packed thriller as a lethal prisoner who is escorted from a compromised safe house by a CIA Agent (Ryan Reynolds). They must make their way to another safe house in South Africa without being taken out by violent forces that want them … both dead.

Wanderlust (R, 3/5 stars) – Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star in Wanderlust, a comedy about a couple who leaves the big city pressures of Manhattan and joins a freewheeling community where the only rule is to be yourself.


Wrath of the Titans (PG-13, 3.5/5 stars) – When the gods are in danger of being overthrown by the Titans, Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the Underworld torescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Friends With Kids (R, 3/5 stars) – Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Jon Hamm star alongside Jennifer Westfeldt and Adam Scott in is a daring and hilarious ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends whose lives change once they have kids.
