Tech-Nostrum
In a near-future America, science fiction has become medical fact. Doctors have taken to the streets like undomesticated dogs, preying upon the ill and humping indiscriminately.
Tech-Nostrum paints a portrait that is ridiculous, touching, and instantly recognizable.
Bobby’s wife is dying. Her name is Mary Ellen, and she is under the care of the best doctors in the world. But the best doctors in the world can’t save her. And there are no more treatments. And there are no more tests. Mary Ellen is running out of time.
As the clock ticks down, the couple half-heartedly, yet desperately, enter into the realm of loathsome self-licensed doctors and low-end remedy peddlers. Bobby watches as poor Mary Ellen endures loony swindles and magic shows. And Mary Ellen watches the lights flash, and she smells the nice smells, and she listens to the hooey, but she knows she is wasting her time.
Then there is a flicker of hope.
Bobby is approached by a strange doctor with a peculiar proposition. The doctor claims he can upload a dying person’s mind into a durable, healthy robotic body. The doctor claims Mary Ellen can be saved.
But, there is a catch.
The procedure requires total commitment on Mary Ellen’s part. That is, she must die a horrible death for the transformation to occur. That is, she must be mutilated and devoured by a series of spinning blades and interlocking teeth before her consciousness can be uploaded into the robot. Yikes.
With her own personal Doomsday Clock about to strike midnight, can Mary Ellen have faith in the unbelievable before it is too late?
Tech-Nostrum is playfully serious, dancing with darkness while relentlessly satirizing pseudoscience and faith-based medicine.
