Alexa learned a new trick! Amazon Echo will now play your Kindle eBooks out loud

Audiobooks literally save my life daily. As an avid listener, doing such tasks as walking the dog, cooking dinner and picking up the kiddos from whatever athletic practice they have that day, becomes painless when listening to Trevor Noah’s new memoir or Lorelai Gilmore‘s, eh I mean Lauren Graham’s hilarious new book.

But it’s not just books on Audible! Alexa has been upgraded to play your Kindle library! The good news? Your Kindle library will already be linked to your Amazon Echo. The bad news? Well, not so bad: You won’t get the smooth, calm voices from real people reading books aloud like on audiobooks. Alexa reads your Kindle books with the same text-to-speech technology used for Wikipedia articles, news articles, and calendar events.

It’s as simple as saying, “Alexa, read my Kindle book”.
