With The Force Awakens set to open in just eight days, fans will want to get refreshed on all the Star Wars characters and plotlines between now and then. Fortunately, the first six films are available in a single HD digital bundle that includes over 9 hours of bonus material. Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection is currently priced at $89.99, which represents a $30 savings versus buying the films individually.
Important Note: these are the updated versions of the films.
George Lucas said long ago he would never allow any re-release of the original versions of Star Wars episodes IV – VI, and that doesn’t appear to have changed when the franchise was purchased by Disney. This is why you’ll find many 1-star reviews on these new, digital-only editions. Sorry, superfans. Unless you bought them on tape or laserdisc back in the day, you are never likely to see the originals again.
As of this writing the Collection is available in either SD or HD format, but both formats are currently priced the same so you may as well go for the HD version. The same is true of the individual films: all are priced at $19.99 each in either SD or HD format.
