The Breakfast Club (R, 4.5/5 stars)

They were five students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school library. At 7 a.m., they had nothing to say, but by 4 p.m. they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends.

John Hughes, creator of the critically acclaimed Sixteen Candles, wrote, directed and produced this hilarious and often touching comedy starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy.

To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be The Breakfast Club.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (PG-13, 4.5/5 stars)

“Bueller? Bueller?” Sorry, not here!

Instead, high-schooler Ferris Bueller (Mathew Broderick), his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara), and his best bud Cameron (Alan Ruck) are off on the spontaneous romp through Chicago known as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

You’ll also enjoy righteous bonus materials that give you an insider’s peek at this hilarious comedy hit from John Hughes (Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Sixteen Candles).

So, barf up a lung, forge a “sick note” from the parents, and tag along on the funniest adventure to ever sweep through the Windy City. What are you still doing here? Save Ferris!

Sixteen Candles (R, 4.5/5 stars)

It’s Samantha Baker’s Sweet Sixteen and no one in her family remembers the important occasion.

John Hughes, the writer of National Lampoon’s Vacation, shows how coming-of-age can be full of surprises in this warm-hearted teenage comedy starring Molly Ringwald. She’s your average teen, enduring creepy freshmen, spoiled siblings, confused parents and the Big Blonde on Campus who stands between her and the boy of her dreams.

But wait…the day isn’t over yet!

This sparkling film features a dynamic score, and outstanding performances by Paul Dooley, Emmy winner Blanche Baker and Oscar nominee Justin Henry.

Pretty in Pink (PG-13, 4.5/5 stars)

Teen sensations Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club) and Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire) drew raves for their starring performances in this hit love story by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).

She’s a high school girl from the wrong side of town. He’s the wealthy heart-throb who asks her to the prom.

But as fast as their romance builds, it’s threatened by the painful reality of peer pressure.

A bittersweet story with an upbeat ending and a phenomenal rock score, Pretty in Pink also stars Harry Dean Stanton, Jon Cryer, James Spader and Annie Potts.
