Instant Video Bargain Alert For 1/14/13

Since I’m gradually making the transition to an all-digital video library, every week I’m on the lookout for price drops on Instant Videos from my DVD/Blu-ray collection. If I can get it for $6.99 or less, I generally do. And if you’re also making the same transition, you should do likewise. Many Instant Videos I’ve bought at $6.99 or less went back up to $9.99 in a matter of days.

I figured that since I’m already trudging through the Instant Video listings on my own behalf, I should start sharing my finds with KF on KND’s audience. Why should ALL of us have to spend the time and effort scouring the listings?  :)

Here are some of today’s more popular movie finds. All of the following Instant Videos are priced at $5.99 as of this writing, but prices are subject to change. Be sure to grab any you want now, before prices go back up.

Blazing Saddles (4.5/5 stars) – Once Mel Brooks’ lunatic film, which many call his best, gets started, logic is lost in a blizzard of gags, jokes, quips, puns, howlers, growlers and the outrageous.

Just Go With It (4/5 stars) – After telling his girlfriend that he’s married as a means of avoiding real commitment, a plastic surgeon must recruit a fake family to prove his honesty.

The Lost Boys (4.5/5 stars) – Strange events threaten an entire family when two brothers move with their divorced mother to a California town where the local teenage gang turns out to be a pack of vampires. Darkly comic, and a lot of fun!

The Big Lebowski (4.5/5 stars) – This Coen brothers’ hilariously twisted and irreverent cult comedy-thriller stars Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and Julianne Moore. Join the “Dude” and his bowling buddies on their journey that blends unforgettable characters, kidnapping, a case of mistaken identity and White Russians. Enter the visually unique and entertaining world from the creative minds of the Coen brothers and remember: the Dude abides.

Gone With The Wind (4.5/5 stars) – Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable star in cinema’s greatest epic of passion and adventure. With its magnificent cinematography and sweeping score, this proves to be a cherished classic.

Shaun Of The Dead (4.5/5 stars) – Get ready for a gut-busting, bone-mashing good time in the hilarious horror comedy, Shaun of the Dead. There comes a day in every man’s life when he has to get off the couch – and kill some zombies. When flesh-eating zombies are on the hunt for a bite to eat, it’s up to slacker Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his best pal (Nick Frost) to save their friends and family from becoming the next entree. Satisfy your bloodthirsty appetite with the movie that masters of horror and film critics alike are hailing as the funniest and scariest movie of the year. Novelist Stephen King gushes “it’s a 10 on the fun meter and destined to be a cult classic” and Newsweek calls Shaun of the Dead “a bloody hoot!” It’s a screamingly hilarious zomedy that will have you dying with laughter.

The Last Samurai (4/5 stars) – A colonial officer arrives in Japan to train the emperor’s troops, but as the country systematically wipes out the samurai, he witnesses the contradictions of the legendary warriors.

Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery (4/5 stars) – Austin Powers is back into action [re-awakened from the cryogenic sleep he was put into in the 1960’s) to once again battle his archenemy Dr. Evil. With his sexy sidekick Ms. Kensington, Austin must stop Dr. Evil’s outrageous plot to control the world. This is the first in the Austin Powers film series.

Caddyshack (4.5/5 stars) – At a private country club, a young caddy pursues a caddy scholarship in hopes of attending college. And the greens keeper plots to destroy a gopher, chewing up the golf course.
