Here’s the Set-Up:
When Eleanor’s beloved babysitter, Bibi, has to move away to take care of her ailing father, Eleanor must try to bear the summer without Bibi and prepare for the upcoming school year. Her new, less-than-perfect babysitter just isn’t up to snuff, and she doesn’t take care of things like Bibi used to. But as the school year looms, it’s time for new beginnings. Eleanor soon realizes that she will always have Bibi, no matter how far away she is. Written in a lyrical style with thoughtful and charming illustrations throughout, this remarkable debut novel tells a poignant story of friendship and the bittersweet feelings of growing up.

Alyson’s Review:

This book was about a girl named Eleanor and her babysitter has to leave because her dad is sick in Florida. Then a girl from upstairs named Agnes comes to her house and Ellie doesn’t like her so she pretends to like her so she doesn’t hurt Agnes feelings. Ellie gets a new babysitter named Natalie but Ellie is still upset and says Bibi will always be her favorite. Then one night Natalie says she will always try to be a good second babysitter. Then she realizes it is September and school starts on Thursday. So Ellie calls her best friend Pearl and asks when will she return and she says Wednesday. Finally it’s Thursday and it’s the first day of school, and Ellie has to write a love poem so she writes it about Natalie because she finally realizes it’s ok to love another babysitter without Bibi getting upset. That day after school Ellie gets a letter back from Bibi and reads it and sees how much Bibi misses Ellie to.

Educational Value:

This story was educational because it shows a great example of a big change in someone’s life.

Entertainment Value:

I this story was entertaining because I like to see how someone has someone special in their life leave and then have to be watched by someone else she turns out to love.
