Kids on Fire: Holiday Movie Time!


On Thanksgiving, when the little ones are getting antsy, it’s time to break out the holiday videos. And if you’ve loaded up a few of these on your Kindle Fire ahead of time, you can keep the backseat crew quiet for that long drive home, too!

Elf (PG, 4.5/5 stars, currently priced at $2.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy) – Will Ferrell stars in this sweet comedy. A tale of a young orphan who crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts on Christmas Eve is transported back to the North Pole and raised asan elf. Buddy later learns he is not really an elf.


The Santa Claus (PG, 4.75/5 stars, currently priced at $1.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy) – A bizarre twist of fate transforms a divorced dad into the new Santa. This movie stars Tim Allen, and answers many of those nagging questions kids have about the man in the red suit, like how he gets into homes without chimneys and how he can fit all the toys for all the children around the world into his bag.


The Polar Express (G, 4/5 stars, currently priced at $2.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy) – A doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole that shows him that the wonder of life never fades forthose who believe. Based on the gorgeous Chris Van Allsburg picture book.

 


Jingle All The Way (PG, 4/5 stars, currently priced at $2.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy) – It’s right before Christmas and high-powered businessman Howard Langston (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is fighting a shopping war in order to buy his son the hottest action figure of the season — Turbo Man.


Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town (TV-G, 4.75/5 stars, currently priced at $6.99 to buy) – A Rankin-Bass holiday classic, this stop-motion animated tale relates the story of how Santa came to be.

 


A Charlie Brown Christmas (TV-G, 5/5 stars, currently priced at $9.99 to buy) – It’s Christmastime, but Charlie Brown is having trouble getting into the spirit. Everyone from his little sister Sally to his beagle Snoopy seems caught up the commercialism of the season, and the aluminum Christmas trees aren’t helping! It’s finally up to Linus to explain the true meaning of Christmas, and rekindle the holiday spirit in his doubtful friend.

 


Arthur Christmas (PG, 4.5/5 stars. currently priced at $3.99 to rent and $12.99 to buy) – Santa’s youngest son Arthur embarks on a magical adventure to deliver the final gift to a child to save Christmas.

 


Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (PG, 3.5/5 stars, currently priced at $2.99 to rent and $4.99 to buy) – Jim Carrey stars as the Grinch in this live-action version of the story.

The original, animated version is available to buy as part of a double feature which also includes the animated Horton Hears A Who. The double feature bundle is currently priced at $9.99 to buy.


Disney’s A Christmas Carol (PG, 3.5/5 stars, currently priced at $1.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy) – Jim Carrey again stars as Scrooge, as well as the ghosts of Christmas Past and Christmas Present, in this dazzling, computer-animated take on Dickens’ classic tale.

 


The Muppet Christmas Carol (PG, 4.5/5 stars, currently priced at $9.99 to buy) – Jim Henson’s wry take on this perennial favorite brings a lot of color and humor to bear on what’s usually treated as a straight drama.
