Star Wars Digital Movie Collection Available At Last

First things first: these are the updated versions of the films.
George Lucas said long ago he would never allow any re-release of the original versions of Star Wars episodes IV – VI, and that doesn’t appear to have changed when the franchise was purchased by Disney.

This is why you’ll find many 1-star reviews on these new, digital-only editions. Sorry, superfans. Unless you bought them on tape or laserdisc back in the day, you are never likely to see the originals again.

Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection

For the first time ever, Star Wars episodes I – VI are being released together in digital HD format as Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection.

The Collection includes many digital extras (like almost 40 deleted scenes!). The entire HD bundle has been made available for pre-order on Amazon at a price of $89.99, and anyone who pre-orders will have access to the movies and extras beginning on 4/10/15. Since the individual digital editions are also being made available at a price of $19.99 each, buying the Collection will save you about $30 compared to buying the films separately.

Format Note: as of this writing the Collection is only being made available in HD format; the individual films are being released in both SD and HD, all are priced at $19.99 each in both formats.

From Amazon:

Join the Jedi Knights on an epic journey to defeat the evil Empire. The saga begins with Anakin Skywalker’s descent to the dark side as he transforms into Darth Vader. The story continues as Luke Skywalker leads the fight for freedom. Purchase also includes bonus features, available to watch in Your Video Library.

Individual Films In The Series Also Available

If you only want to get your favorites, that’s an option with this digital release, too. All six of the existing Star Wars films are now available for pre-order, and will be ready to watch in purchasers’ digital libraries beginning 4/10/15.
