Scholastic has started a special series for newly-independent readers, aged roughly 5-7, called Branches. These books are intended to bridge the gap between picture books and illustrated chapter books by expanding on early reader skills in a gradual way to build confidence, while also providing interesting and amusing subject matter to keep kids engaged. This duo of Princess Pink and the Land of Fake-Believe books are prime examples.
